Alpena High School Athletics expressed their "deepest gratitude" for the contributions made by Coach Eric Mitchell in an APS press release published on Tuesday.
Mitchell, who recently decided to resign from his head coaching position, was a big help in the football program and to student-athletes throughout the school. The press release mentioned that he made this decision to prioritize and dedicate more time to his family.
"We are grateful for the years of dedication and hard work he has put into our program. Coach Mitchell has been the driving force behind AHS Wildcat Football, going above and beyond to create a better environment and cultivate exceptional leadership skills in the young men he mentored", said APS District Athletic Director Jon Studley.
Studley also said that Mitchell and his staff "poured their heart and soul" into the football program at AHS every day for the past five years.
"On behalf of AHS Athletics, we extend our thanks to Coach Mitchell and our thanks to his family, acknowledging the sacrifices they have made to support his efforts. His unwavering dedication and work ethic made a lasting impact on our football program and the lives of countless student-athletes", said Studley.
