Alcona Police find armed grenade in Haynes Twp.

On Thursday, the Michigan State Police’s Bomb Squad was needed to remove a live grenade from a house in Haynes Township in Alcona County.

Deputies from the Alcona County Sheriff’s Office needed to cordon off the area for a safe distance until the MSP special ops unit cleared the site.

In a press release, the Alcona County Sheriff’s Office says on Thursday, a resident called and told police that he found two grenades in a metal ammunition can while clearing out his father’s garage and one of the grenades was still armed and intact.

A deputy, who had prior military experience, identified the grenade as an MKII pineapple frag grenade that has an explosive range of about 100 meters.

When state police arrived the weapon was safely removed.
