Alcona opens bowling season
The Alcona Varsity Bowling Teams had their first game of the year on Saturday.
Coach Tina Stern said, “With some new bowlers and first game nervousness, we did a great job.”
The girls’ team this year includes Rylee Manning, Makayla Prince, Danica Manning, Nyhia Jackson, Ceanna Stern, and Addison Birk. The boys’ team this year includes Jacob June, Daniel June, and Jaxon Whittaker.
On Saturday, the teams play at Vista Lanes in Oscoda.
AHS wrestling loses
four dual contests
AHS wrestling traveled downstate for the Birch Run Team Wrestling Tournament where the team dropped four dual contests to Yale, Caro, Cass City, and Beaverton.
The Co-Ed team’s record now stands at 2-4.
Raphael Hautecouverture (120) led the team with 3 wins, while Joseph McEwen (113), Cayden Smith (126), Matthew Spencer (138), Brody Oliver (157), and Carter Stark (165) each had 2 wins on the day.
Their next match is on Dec. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Carrollton.
AHS hockey loses
to Byron Center, 6-3
The Alpena High School hockey team lost to Byron Center, 6-3, on Saturday. Their record now stands at 3-3-0.
Head Coach Ben Henry commented, “That’s a really good hockey team we played (Saturday). We made some costly mistakes that came back to haunt us in the end, but we had some guys really step up and play a big role for us.”
The team plays at Gaylord on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
As conference play begins soon, “the competition (they) have played so far has helped (them) prepare for these next couple of weeks,” said Henry.
