AAACU gives back to 18 community organizations

ALPENA -- Eighteen nonprofit organizations have been blessed with $1,000 each this holiday season, thanks to the Community Investment Fund at Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union.
The credit union, through a program that saves money when members choose paperless statements, invests that savings back into the community to help charitable organizations.
This year, AAACU chose 18 organizations to give $1,000 each during the 18 Days of Giving.
Those organizations include:

¯ Atlanta School Winter Coats and Boots

¯ The Claw Academy
¯ United Methodist Church of Harrisville Food Pantry

¯ God Loves You Food Pantry

AAACU Director of Marketing LeAnn Schultz said AAACU started this giving program three years ago.
"We just wanted to do something to give back to our communities," she said. "We focused on human needs. It's just another way to give back and help our community and to make the holidays a little easier."
She said in prior years, they have given $500 to more organizations, but that this year they wanted to give $1,000 to 18 human-needs based nonprofits.
"During the winter season, food, shelter, and clothing is really what we focused on," Schultz said.
She explained that each member who chooses e-statements plays a part in helping the community through AAACU's Community Investment Fund.
"For every member that has e-statements, 75 cents a month, or $9 a year goes back into our Community Investment Fund," Schultz said. "So it's not just the credit union. Seventy-five cents by all our membership really adds up."
