ALPENA -- The 2023 Wishing for Christmas craft show will be bigger and better, with 150 vendors spaced out in two locations at the APlex: the main ballroom and the tennis center. The halls are already decked and everything will be ready for visitors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Event organizer Denise Donakowski is excited for this year's show, noting that it will be easier to navigate with crafters in both locations at the APlex. It will also have about 38 more vendors than last year's show.
Some of those vendors include Tom Ludwig of Long Lake, Cheryl Plusch of Cocoa, Florida, and Gina Barclay of Hubbard Lake. Ludwig makes hand-painted feather art and handcrafted wooden items, including charcuterie boards and furniture. Plusch will have an assortment of items she has crocheted, as well as some quilted items at her booth. Barclay will have custom-sewn totes, wine bags, pillowcases, and more. To find her booth, look for the blow-up Grinch.
"I will never miss this show," Barclay said. "It's large, it's one day, it's profitable for me, and you have a wonderful person that helps you."
"It draws a lot of people," Plusch said. "I prepare all year long to come here."
"I like a one-day show," Ludwig said. "Each year has been successful."
