Salvation Army offering cash prize for bell ringing

The Salvation Army of Alpena is offering a cash prize and discounts to the nonprofit or individual who rings the most hours during the Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle fundraiser from Nov. 17 to Dec. 23, according to a news release from the Salvation Army.

Marge Haaxma, the local Salvation Army's honorary Red Kettle chairwoman, is offering $500 to the nonprofit that rings the most hours, while Maj. Prezza Morrison, head of the local Salvation Army, is offering a 50%-off coupon for the Salvation Army Thrift Store to individual volunteers who ring the most hours.

The Salvation Army's goal for this year is $165,000.
