ACC alumni games Saturday

Alpena Community College will celebrate a longstanding athletic tradition on Saturday as the Lumberjack men and women basketball teams take on ACC alumni at the college.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, the women’s basketball team will take on the ACC women’s alumni team. The men’s team and the men alumni face off at 2:30 p.m.

Any ACC alumni interested in playing should contact Cindy DeRocher at derochec@alpenacc.edu.

Prior to and during the games, the Athletic Leadership Council will host a chili/soup/mac and cheese cookoff between the six ACC sports.

The games and cookoff tasting are free.


Leaders of the Alpena High School junior varsity football team announced winners of the team’s annual awards.

The team’s most valuable player and offensive MVP was Thorin Rogers. The team’s defensive MVP and lineman of the year was Henry Wirgau. Rookie of the year went to Eion Eades and Wyatt Srebnik. Most improved went to Gavin Lobaugh. And the Coaches’ Award went to Carter Koproski, Brody Oliver, and Ethan Sahr.
