Woman gets four years for meth

ALPENA -- Defendant Josie Tesmer on Monday received more than four years of incarceration for delivery of methamphetamine.
Tesmer faced a charge in Alpena Circuit Court of controlled substance delivery for her role in a methamphetamine operation in Alpena that was foiled by the Huron Undercover Narcotics Team earlier in the year.
Before Tesmer was given her sentence, her attorney, Dennis Grenkowicz, argued that she should only receive four years because of her cooperation with law enforcement and her numerous efforts to move forward, such as completing her stay at the Sunrise Centre and getting her general educational development degree while she was incarcerated.
"She has been taking steps, judge, to change her life," said Grenkowicz. "We don't make any excuses for what happened, but what we are saying is that there should be a recognition of a person that does try to change."
After Grenkowicz spoke, Tesmer also spoke, saying she takes full responsibility for her actions but would still like a lesser sentence so that she can continue her road to improvement.
"I do take full responsibility for my actions," she said. "Do I deserve to be punished? Yes, absolutely. I truly believe that the cure for addiction is connection and compassion."
Alpena County Prosecutor Cynthia Muszynski argued that Tesmer should serve eight years, saying that would still be considerably less than what others involved in this case have received.
