ROGERS CITY — A hilarious whodunnit opens Friday at Rogers City Theater, and you’re invited.

Rogers City Community Theatre presents “The Alibis,” a comedy-murder-mystery, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday at 257 N. Third St., Rogers City. The show will run again next weekend, Nov. 3 to 5.

Director Pennie Hoeft said this is the first murder mystery RCCT has done at Rogers City Theater, although they have performed dinner theater shows at other locations.

“It’s actually eight vignettes,” Hoeft said. “Which is like little plays written independently, but they go together. And we’re only using seven of them.”

Hoeft is excited to present “The Alibis” to the Northeast Michigan community.

“I really like this because it was very flexible for casting,” she said. “And it is meant to be kind of ridiculous, at times.”

She said an escape to the theater for some laughs is just what everyone needs.

“There’s so much weird, negative stuff going on in the world that I love the silly, crazy, ridiculousness of this play,” Hoeft said. “It’s totally meant to help you get away, check out of your life for a while, and laugh.”

The cast ranges in age from young teens up to mid-50s, she added, and everyone has been doing a great job working together.

“Each cast member is playing multiple characters,” Hoeft said. “Some of them are playing, like, five different characters.”

Actors include Lex Haske, Brooke Crawford, Alex Czarnecki, Cozy Janowiec, Lily Janowiec, Baylee Lijewski, Angie May, Gabbi Haske, and Jodi Kamyszek.

“They are doing a fabulous job,” Hoeft added. “We’ve just been having a lot of fun … The cast members are wonderful. Very reliable, very receptive, having fun, helping each other out.”

She added that a murder mystery makes sense near Halloween.

“We’ve actually toyed with the idea of doing more of that type of thing in the fall,” she said. “Take advantage of this creepy season.”

Tickets will be available at the door for $14 per adult and $6 per student.
