As winter nears, The Salvation Army is amping up its "Share the Warmth" program that collects and distributes new or clean gently used coats, gloves, scarfs, hats, boots, and snow pants of all sizes for people who need winter attire.
In a press release today, Maj. Prezza Morrison said due to current economic conditions The Salvation Army knows the need to obtain winter wear increased.
"There are always cold weather concerns in Michigan. With many people walking to school or work it is very important that they are dressed warm and safe. We try to supply what people need yet help them with the high cost these items can be with a tight budget." Morrison said.
People who wish to donate can drop off items Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the office location at 722 N. 2nd Ave. Alpena.
There is a green bin outside the office door for after-hour drop off. Collection will continue until Oct. 16.
The Salvation Army has provided coats for families for many years. Last year we served over 250 people with over 500 items. This year we are expecting an increase due to increased need and financial concerns.
