UPDATED: Inaugural Hops in the Hole festival Saturday

ALPENA -- On Saturday, Rogers City will host its first craft brew festival called Hops in the Hole.
The event will be held at the Rogers City Sports Park, which locals call The Hole.
Kim Margherio, one of many organizers who worked together with Rogers City and Rogers City Mainstreet to make the event a reality, said she is excited about the event and anticipates a lot of people will have fun.
Margherio said the idea for Hops in the Hole came from a resident several years ago and once the Mainstreet Program was in place, the Main Street Promotions Committee and others began the planning and legwork involved to host an event of this size.
She said as word of the beer festival spread, the anticipation and excitement for it rose.
"Everyone is excited, and we are looking forward to getting this off the ground and growing it," she said. "These types of events are very popular and a great way for people to get together and have some fun."
Rogers City Main Street Executive Director Alex Harimoto said businesses downtown will likely benefit from the number of people in town for Hops in the Hole.
"The timing is perfect because it is on a Saturday afternoon and gets over at 4 p.m., so people will likely go downtown to get food and shop," Harimoto said. "I know the businesses are prepared to stay open and are excited about a potential large influx of people."
The event begins at noon and runs until 4 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $25 each, cash only, and available at the gate. The festival is for people 21-years-old and older. Each ticket is good for six beverage pours and a souvenir glass.
Margherio said the three primary sponsors, DTE Energy, M.J. Electric, and Culligan of Rogers City were pivotal in making the event a reality and the many volunteers who stepped up and dedicated their time and resources are appreciated.
She said people can expect to drink samples from many breweries from the area and beyond and even some cider for those who crave it.
Margherio said there will also be food available and is thrilled to have Detroit Frankie's Pizza make the trip to offer his famous pizza. She said there will be several other food vendors offering up a variety of meals and snacks.
There will be games and live entertainment to add to the fun too.
"A lot of hard work has gone into this and we think people are going to have a great time," Margherio said.
