GAYLORD — A promising start quickly went south for the Alpena High football team on Friday.

Russell and Riley Hush combined for three rushing downs and Gaylord’s defense had a safety and returned an interception for a touchdown during a 50-6 win over the Wildcats.

The win moves Gaylord to 6-0 on the year and drops Alpena to 1-5.

Alpena’s opening drive saw the Wildcats reach the red zone, but the Wildcats couldn’t convert and fell behind 9-0 after one quarter.

Gaylord increased its to 30-0 at halftime and 43-0 after three quarters.

Alpena’s only touchdown came late in the fourth quarter when Jake Zann found John Kurowski for about a 25-yard pass for a score.

Alpena hosts Sault Ste. Marie next week in a Big North Conference contest.
