ALPENA-- Lately the weather hasn't quite felt like summer, but that is going to change over Labor Day Weekend.
The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures from Friday through Monday to be in the low to mid 80s, which should suffice to people who want to barbeque, go to the beach, or spend a few days on the boat on the water.
There is also no rain in the forecast for the three-day weekend.
In Alpena, the beach, lakes, and parks are sure to be popular places to enjoy the sunshine and the dry warm weather may also be an opportunity for people to do some yard work or maintenance around the house before fall arrives.
Dan Cornish, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Gaylord, said weather conditions will be about perfect for doing anything outdoors. He said temperatures could climb into the high 80s in some parts of Northeast Michigan.
"There isn't much in terms of precipitation expected and it will definitely feel like summer and warmer than what it has been," Cornish said. "It is going to be a good start to September."
The warm weather is expected to stick around for a spell after the holiday.after cooler than normal days today and Wednesday, the Mercury will begin to climb through the weekend and well into next week.. He said it should remain in the 80s on Sept. 5-6 and then dip into the mid to upper 70s until the end of next week.
"It will cool off a bit, but it is still going to be very comfortable," he said.
Although it will be hot during the holiday weekend in Alpena, it is not expected to come close to record high temperatures that are well into the 90s. The highest temperature recorded in Alpena on Sept. 4 -- the date Labor Day falls on this year -- is 94 degrees.
"It's going to be warm, but not anywhere close to that," Cornish said. "It is hard to get those kinds of temperatures in northern Michigan this late in summer."
The record low temperature for Sept. 4 is 32 degrees.
