PREP ROUNDUP: Alpena soccer team earns first win

ALPENA — The Alpena High boys soccer team earned its first win of the season in dominant fashion on Monday, defeating Boyne City 9-1.

Gabe Glawe and Garret Hamp each scored four goals for the Wildcats (1-1-3) and Kaleb Worth added a single goal and several assists.

NMC 6, Alcona 5

LINCOLN — The Alcona soccer team lost a close game on Monday, falling to Northern Michigan Christian Academy 6-5. 

Alcona got goals from Emily Atkinson, Colin McKenna and a hat trick by Preston Sharp.

Dawson Rigby and Cole Upper had two assists each and Colin McKenna had one assist.  Vincent Nardi had eight saves in goal. 

The Tigers will travel to Harbor Light Christian on Sept. 7 for their next game

GIRLS SWIMMING

Alpena 105, Oscoda 50

ALPENA — The Alpena High School girls swim team defeated Oscoda in its season opener on Monday, 105-50.

Results are as follows:

In the first event, the 200 yard medley relay, Alpena took first place; back stroke by Hannah McConnell, breast stroke by Sarah Rabbideau; butterfly by Tryst Bukowiecki and; freestyle by Olivia Sherwood. 

Event 2, the 200 yard freestyle Alpena took second place with Lizzie Rabbideau and fourth place with Kaelyn Roznowski. 

Event 3, the 200 IM, Tryst Bukowiecki took first and Hannah McConnell took second.

Event 4, the 50 freestyle, Lizzie Rabbideau took first, Emilee Modrzejewski was second and Trinity Hosinski was third.

Event 6, the 100 butterfly, Sarah Rabbideau took first and Tryst Bukowiecki took second.

Event 7, the 100 yard freestyle, Alpena’s Eva Trainer took first, Kaelyn Roznowski finished second and Hailey Diemond was fourth. 

Event 8, the 500 yard freestyle, Olivia Sherwood took first place. 

Event 9, 200 yard freestyle relay, Alpena took first place with Eva Trainer, Kaelyn Roznowski, Lizzie Rabbideau, and Sarah Rabbideau and second place with Bailee Diemond, Hailey Diemond, Emilee Modrzejewski and Gabby Tolan. 

Event 10, the 100 yard backstroke, Alpena’s Hannah McConnell took first, Emilee Modrzejewski took fourth and Eva Trainer took fifth.

Event 11, the 100 yard breaststroke, Sarah Rabbideau took first, Olivia Sherwood finished second, and Gabby Tolan took fourth place.

Event 12, the 400 yard freestyle relay, Alpena took first place with Hannah McConnell, Olivia Sherwood, Tryst Bukowiecki and Lizzie Rabbideau.

The next meet will be away at Ogemaw Heights on Sept. 9 at 10 a.m.
