Alpena FC finishes third in Powerade International Tournament

The Alpena FC high school girls team recently opened its season in Brighton at the Powerade International Tournament.
Alpena returned home undefeated going 2-0-1 during the weekend but failed to advance to the finals on the fourth tie breaker rule and were awarded a third place finish on the points they earned.
In Game 1 early Saturday morning, Alpena defeated Flint Area United 2-1. FAU scored just a few minutes into the game however that would be the only goal Alpena allowed all weekend. Faith Dragiewicz and Anna Skiba each had goals and Keeper Taylor Parker battled back after an early collision to have FAU award her Player of the game. Alpena's defense buckled down as Ezrah Williams unexpectedly was called on to provide emergency Goal tending relief before Parker's return.
Game 2 found Alpena battling Caboto United out of Ontario, Cananda to a 0-0 tie. (Caboto advanced on and won tournament) Dragiewicz earned POG honors. Sunday Morning game 3 was a fight to the end as Dragiewicz scored with just three minutes left and Alpena defeated the tournament host 2005 Brighton Legends FC 1-0.
Skiba was awarded POG. Superior defense and midfield play all weekend was anchored by Sopie Kindt, Isabelle Kocan, Annabelle Lacross, Sidney Lacross, and Ezrah Williams. Kelsie Mousseau provided support at multiple positions and Newcomer Madelyn Farley, and U14 call-ups Lucy Kindt and Haley Stenz played critical minutes all weekend long leading to Alpena's success.
