The National Park Service announced Friday that the Besser, Herman and Hattie (Ely), House at 403 South 2nd Ave. in Alpena has been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of places around the country that have been deemed worthy of preservation.

Other spots in Alpena County on the list include the Alpena County Courthouse, the Grecian shipwreck site, Middle Island Light and Bingham School.
