ALPENA — St. Cloud State University junior forward and Alpena native Emma Gentry has been chosen to attend the USA Hockey National Hockey Festival in August. Gentry is one of dozens of invitees for the camp, which is a tryout for the USA National (18+) Team.
The festival is set for Aug. 7-13 in Lake Placid, New York. It brings together the top players in the nation from the U18 level to the national team to assist in evaluations for the 2023-24 Women’s National Team, which will compete this winter in the 2023-24 Rivalry Series.
The festival also helps in the selection of the U18 and Collegiate Women’s Select Team for the U18 and Collegiate Series later in August which will be played against Canada.
Gentry is one of more than 70 players attending the festival, the only player chosen from St. Cloud State and one of 11 players from Michigan.
In three seasons with the Huskies, Gentry has 32 goals and 18 assists for 50 points. This past season, she tallied 11 goals, including three power-play goals and nine assists. As a sophomore, she tallied a career-high 15 goals and eight assists for 23 points.
In 2020, Gentry was one of 22 members of Team USA’s U-18 women’s hockey team to bring home the gold during the 2020 International Ice Hockey Federation’s Women’s World Championship in Bratislava, Slovakia.
