Beginning today, the ongoing work on Ripley Boulevard will begin the street resurfacing portion of the project. In an effort to minimize traffic impacts, the removal of the pavement and repaving operations will be performed primarily after work hours and throughout the night, Alpena city officials announced said in a press release Tuesday.
Today, the contractor will work in the intersections and traffic regulators will be present to guide motorists around the construction. Work will continue during the day on Thursday. Trucks will be staged on side streets to help alleviate road congestion.
At 6 p.m. on Thursday, traffic will be reduced to one lane with traffic regulators present until approximately 6 a.m. This work will continue on Friday at 6 p.m. when traffic will be reduced to one lane until the project is completed.
This work is being funded through the Major Street Fund with grant assistance of $375,000 from the Small Urban Program through the Michigan Department of Transportation for a total project cost of $608,000.
