The Alpena High baseball team lost a pair of close games on Saturday, dropping contests against Gladstone (4-3) and Kingsley (4-2).
Alpena's rally against Gladstone fell short. Gladstone scored a pair of runs in the third inning, both teams scored twice in the fifth inning and Alpena scored once more in the sixth inning.
Hunter Cohoon had two hits and two RBI for Alpena; Grant Jarema had a hit and an RBI and Brady Pagels, Landen Spomer, and Brady Niedzwiecki each had a hit.
A three-run third inning and an additional run in the fifth inning was all Kingsley needed to beat the Wildcats. Alpena scored a run in both the first and fourth innings.
Jake Zann had two hits for Alpena and Niedzwiecki and Kaleb Donajkowski each had a hit and an RBI.
Hillman splits during tournament
HOUGHTON LAKE -- The Hillman baseball team split a pair of games at a tournament in Houghton Lake on Saturday.
Hillman (21-10) lost to eventual tournament champion Carrolton 5-1 in game one. After scoring a run in the top of the first, Hillman was scoreless the rest of the way.
Brenden Rouleau and Cuyler Schultz each had a hit for Hillman and Braylon Firman had an RBI.
Behind a no-hitter from JT Witzke, Hillman rebounded for an 8-0 over Houghton Lake in game 2. Hillman took control of the game after scoring seven runs over the first two innings.
Edwin Hardies had two hits and two RBI for Hillman; Rouleau had two hits; and Witzke had two hits and an RBI.
Posen splits Saturday games
The Posen baseball team split a pair of games on Saturday, beating Hale 10-0 and losing to Pickford 11-3.
Against Hale, Lucas Mercier and Ethan Romel combined to throw a no-hitter, striking out six and walking two.
At the plate, Mercier helped the cause with two hits and Romel had a hit and two RBI.
Pickford scored four runs in the first inning, added five in the second, and stayed ahead from there.
Romel led Posen with two hits and two RBI and Andrew Budnick had two hits,

Hillman wins Houghton Lake

HOUGHTON LAKE -- The Hillman softball team won the Houghton Lake Tournament on Saturday with wins over Carrolton and Houghton Lake.
Hillman opened with a 17-1 win over Carrolton. Nicole Barbeau earned the win, allowing two hits and striking out 10.
At the plate, Barbeau was 2-for-4 with a double; Gretchen Weiland was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple; Autumn Lis had a home run and Cassidy Benac had an inside-the-park home run.
Hillman followed up with a 16-1 win over Houghton Lake. Weiland got the win, throwing a no-hitter with seven strikouts.
Benac was 3-for-4 with two doubles; Weiland, Crane, and Taratuta were all 2-for-3 and Barbeau was 2-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run.
Posen wins a pair
The Posen softball team won two games on Saturday, defeating Hale 20-5 and Pickford 11-8.
Posen scored six runs in the opener to start the game and kept adding runs from there. Halie Konieczny won, allowing five runs (one earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
Ava Wesner had three hits, three RBI, and scored twice for Posen; Konieczny had two hits, three RBI, and scored three times; Jocelyn Hincka had two hits, three RBI and two runs scored; Faith Cousins had two hits, two RBI, and three runs scored.
Pickford took a 6-0 lead to start the game, but Posen rallied back and eventually overtook the Panthers.
Cousins had two hits, two RBI, and three runs scored; Alyssa Smigelski had two hits; HIncka had a hit and two RBI and Ella Szatkowski had two hits and an RBI.
Alcona goes 1-1 at Oscoda tourney
OSCODA -- Sage Gauthier had a record-setting day and the Alcona softball team split a pair of games on Saturday in Oscoda.
Gauthier hit a triple during the two games, setting a new program record for triples in a season with her eighth of the year.
Oscoda lost its opening game against Michigan Lutheran Seminary 5-0, but won its second game against Oscoda 9-3.
