Thunder Bay students complete VEX Robotics season

Courtesy Photo Students at Thunder Bay Junior High School recently completed their season in VEX Robotics, Alpena Public Schools announced in a press release on Tuesday. Their final competition was an in-house competition “All robotics teams engineered their robots to operate well in the competition,” Mentor/coach Bob Thompson said. Students each received the 2023 Robotics medal for Engineering Excellence. The club had eight teams that used the Vex IQ Gen 2 robotics kit. The club started by reviewing the 2023 Vex Robotic Competition challenge called Slap Shot. The students researched, designed, developed prototypes, and built a competition robot. Teams compete in the Robot Skills Challenge, where one robot takes the field to score as many points as possible. These matches consist of driving skills matches, which will be entirely driver-controlled. The teams were challenged to score as many points as possible in three-minute rounds.
