Both awards are for the 2023-2024 school year. Applications are being accepted now through July 1. Scholarships will be awarded on July 19.
The scholarships are available to students seeking degrees in direct patient care, nursing, clinical laboratory science and in medical school and the requirement are that they are, or have been, residents of Alpena, Alcona, Montmorency or Presque Isle counties.
About the Dr. Peter Aliferis Memorial Scholarship: The Medical Center Laboratory staff established this fund as a tribute to Dr. Peter Aliferis, a pathologist for 37 years. Dr. Aliferis passed away on March 13, 2022, and the scholarship fund is in memory of his many contributions to the hospital and community. Ongoing funding for this scholarship is made possible by the Aliferis family and the proceeds of the MyMichigan Aliferis 5k Race. The $1,000 scholarship will help graduating residents pursue a career in the clinical laboratory science field or medical school.
About the June and Gerald Kramer Memorial Education Scholarship: This $1,000 scholarship has been made available by the Kramer family in memory of June and Gerald Kramer. Both June and Gerald spent many hours at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena brightening the lives of many with their smiles and laughter. Their philosophy was always to help others and keeping with that philosophy, this scholarship was established. Scholarship applicants must be enrolled in the field of nursing or direct patient care.
