HILLMAN -- Pamela Rader was selected as the new full-time superintendent of Hillman Community Schools in a vote of five to one during the district Board of Education's special board meeting on Monday.
"I am very honored and humbled," Rader said of her appointment.
The road to Rader's full-time appointment began in December 2021 when Hillman's previous superintendent, Carl Seiter, resigned. Rader took over as interim superintendent temporarily, relinquishing her previous title as the principal of Hillman Elementary School.
The Hillman Board of Education hoped to wait a year before selecting the next superintendent but, due to community pressures, attempted to expedite that process. Ultimately, the board went through the typical hiring process for a superintendent which including posting the position last December, closing the application window in April, and then selecting the candidates.
Once the final candidates were selected, they each were given extensive interviews where each member of the board asked them specific questions on what they would do as superintendent.
This was all brought to a head on Monday where Rader and Michael Ehinger stood as the final two candidates for the position.
The candidates underwent a final interview in front of the board and the meeting participants before they exited, leaving the board, with input from the audience, to decide in which they selected Rader as the full-time superintendent.
When asked what the board was looking for in its next superintendent, board members said they were looking for someone who will love the community and who is willing to stay.
"Our superintendent goal was pretty simple," Kelly Burnwell, president of the Hillman Board of Education, said. "We wanted someone who was gonna love our community and who was gonna stay."
Rader expressed her commitment to Hillman Community Schools as well as her love for the community.
"My family moved here going on nine years ago," Rader said. "I love Hillman, This is my home."
