ALANSON -- The Posen softball team's offense caught fire on Wednesday, during a doubleheader sweep of Alanson, 23-5 and 28-6.
In the opener, Posen pounded out 17 hits and had two separate innings where it scored 10 runs.
Ella Szatkowski had a home run and a double among five hits for Posen, three RBI and three runs scored; Ava Wesner had two triples and a double, four RBI and two runs scored; Shelby Donajkowski had a triple; Halie Konieczny had two hits and four RBI; Madison Kamyszek had a hit and four RBI and Jocelyn Hincka had three hits, two RBI and three runs scored.
The Vikings started the nightcap with an eight-run first inning and added two in the second and 18 more in the third.
Wesner had four doubles, four RBI and three runs scored; Faith Cousins had a home run, a triple, a double, six RBI, and four runs scored; Kamyszek had a home run among three hits, three RBI and four runs scored; Hincka had two hits and an RBI and Donajkowski had a hit, four RBI and two runs scored.
Alpena splits with Saginaw Valley
SAGINAW -- The Alpena High softball team split a doubleheader with Saginaw Swan Valley on Wednesday.
Alpena (15-9) won the opener 6-3 and lost the second game 11-1.
The Wildcats host Petoskey today in a Big North Conference doubleheader.
Hurons split with Inland Lakes
The Rogers City softball team split a doubleheader with its rivals from Inland Lakes on Tuesday.
The Hurons (14-6) won the first game 11-5. The Bulldogs scored two in the first and the Hurons scored 4 in the bottom of the inning to take a lead they would never give up.
Taylor Krentz was the winning pitcher, giving up four runs on five hits and striking out six in four innings.
At the plate, Savanah Tulgestka reached base and scored in all four of her at-bats. Brooklyn Orr had three hits including a double and an RBI. McKenna Hardies had two hits and two RBI and Kaitlyn Crawford had two hits and scored two runs. Kaitlin Nowicki and Callie Rhode both had a hit and two RBI.
In the second game the Bulldogs won in their last at bat as Natalie Wandrie hit a two-out, three run homer to give Inland Lakes the 8-7 win.
At the plate, Orr had three hits and three RBI, Hein had two hits and two RBI, Garrison had two hits including a double, Rhode had two hits and an RBI, and Tulgestka had two hits.

Posen sweeps Alanson
ALANSON -- The Posen baseball team scored early and often Wednesday on the way to a sweep of Alanson, 17-8 and 23-2.
In the opener, Ethan Romel had a monster home run, a triple and a double among four hits with six RBI and four runs scored; Cole Krajniak had a triple, three RBI and two runs scored; Maties Torralba had two hits and two RBI; Andrew Budnick and Jack Romel each had two hits and an RBI.
In the nightcap, Posen opened the game with a 10-run first inning and cruised from there, finishing with 17 hits.
Jack Romel had four hits, six RBI and scored twice; Cole Krajniak had three hits and an RBI and three runs scored; Budnick had two hits, three RBI and two runs scored; Ethan Romel and Maties Torralba had two hits, two RBI and scored three runs.

Alpena competes in Gaylord
GAYLORD -- The Alpena High boys golf team competed in the Blue Devil Open Wednesday in Gaylord. Alpena finished with a team score of 328 and was led by Gavin Hamp, who finished eighth with a 77.
Alpena's other scorers included: Easton Schultz (82), Anden Marceau (83), Harrison Kaszubowski (86), Avery Spicer (97) and Preston Schuldt (101).
