ALPENA — A Montmorency County man faces multiple charges in court after allegedly hitting a police officer with his vehicle in 2021.
Brandon Lynch was charged in Alpena’s 88th District Court Monday after the court found there was probable cause for three charges for him allegedly hitting a Montmorency County police officer.
The probable cause hearing looked at three charges of assault with the intent to cause bodily harm less than murder, resisting or obstructing a police officer, and fleeing a police officer in a vehicle.
In July 2021, Lynch allegedly engaged in a high-speed chase with police that started in Montmorency County and ended in Alpena. At some point in Alpena, Lynch attempted to slow down for a U-turn and was hit by pursuing police officer, Sgt. Mike Brooks.
Brooks then exited his vehicle with gun drawn and Lynch accelerated the car in his direction. Brooks got out of the way and was hit by the side of the vehicle as Lynch took off.
According to court records, Lynch was previously charged in the Montmorency Circuit Court on eight counts, stemming from the alleged incident, including assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, two counts of police officer – fleeing – third degree, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of fire or police property, driving – reckless and operating – license suspended, revoked, denied.
Court records show that Lynch pleaded guilty to one count of police officer – fleeing – third degree and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon. The rest of the charges were dismissed.
For the Alpena case, the prosecution called Brooks as a witness where he recounted the alleged chase.
Lynch’s next court appearance will be in circuit court on a future date.
