HALE -- The Hillman baseball team kept things rolling on Thursday, defeating Hale 19-0 in both games of a doubleheader.
In one game, Trenton Taratuta had a perfect game, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out eight.
At the plate, Braylon Firman led Hillman with three hits, three RBI and scored twice. Cuyler Schultz had a hit and three RBI and Evan Crane had a hit and two RBI.
In the other game, Crane and Jack Sobey combined for a three-inning shutout and combined to allow one hit, strike out six and walk two.
Schultz had two hits and two RBI and Brenden Rouleau had two hits and two RBI.
Au Gres takes 2 from Posen
AU GRES -- The Posen baseball team lost a pair of games against Au Gres Thursday, losing 5-4 and 21-2.
Posen got out to an early lead in the opener, scoring three runs in the first inning and another in the third. Au Gres kept chipping away with one run each in the second through fifth inning and the game-winning run in the seventh.
Joshua Gardner led Posen with three hits and three RBI.
Au Gres was off and running in the second game after a 12-run first inning. Ethan Romel had two hits for Posen and Conner Paull had a hit and an RBI.
SOFTBALL
Alcona tops Mio
MIO -- The Alcona softball team poured on the offense Thursday, beating Mio in a doubleheader 13-2 and 15-5.
In the first game, Alcona caught fire early with eight runs in the first inning and kept adding from there. Carmen Dellar had two hits and two RBI and Miah Schopfer had two hits and an RBI. Schopfer earned the win, allowing two runs, one hit, and two walks and six strikeouts.
Alcona scored eight runs in the first inning of the second game and kept rolling. Sage Gauthier had three hits, three RBI and scored four runs; Olivia Borchardt had four hits, including two doubles, three RBI and scored twice in addition to earning the win. Gracyn Tracy added two hits.
Hillman sweeps Hale
HALE -- Hillman had a strong all-around day on Thursday, beating Hale 16-0 and 15-0 in a doubleheader.
In the first game, Nicole Barbeau got the win, allowing two hits and striking out eight. At the plate, Barbeau helped her cause with two hits and four RBI and scored three times. Cassidy Benac had four hits, three RBI and scored twice; Hannah Crane had two hits and an RBI.
In the second game, Gretchen Weiland allowed no runs and no hits with eight strikeouts.
Weiland had two hits, two RBI and scored twice; Hannah Crane had two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored; Saige Flaugher had two hits and an RBI.
JV GOLF
Alpena competes in West Branch
WEST BRANCH -- The Alpena High JV golf team competed in the Ogemaw Heights Invitational on Thursday, finishing with a team score of 442.
Freshman Carter Koproski led the team with a 103, followed by Luke Miller (109), Gavin Winterstein (113), Hayden Schultz (117), Garrett Flanner (119) and Colin Treinen (119).
