On May 16, in recognition of May being Mental Health Awareness Month, Alpena Public Schools (APS) will be host an event focused on mental health in the Alpena High School Auditorium.
The event will start at 5:30 pm with an informative community panel discussion that will include representatives from the school district and local community partners. This will be immediately followed by a live presentation called "Ending the Silence" by The Sunset Project at 7 p.m.
The Sunset Project is a local nonprofit founded by APS graduates Nick Poli, Kevin O'Brien and Gavin MacDonald. The Sunset Project will also implement an evidence-based, nationally-recognized program in health classes at AHS this spring.
The event is free and will include informational booths from local agencies partnering with APS for this event such as Alcona Health Center, Catholic Human Services, and MyMichigan Health.
The entire event will be live streamed and recorded on the APS YouTube channel.
