ALPENA — Another exciting track and field season has produced exciting finishes, lots of PRs and hard work from athletes all over Northeast Michigan. Now the area’s very best will get a chance to compete today as the Alpena News Track and Field Honor Roll Invitational returns for another year.

The 19th annual meet takes place this afternoon at 4 p.m. at Thunder Bay Junior High School. The meet looks to have another competitive field of athletes who will get to test themselves against the best the area has to offer.

Many of this afternoon’s competitors have been to the invite before and are looking to better their times and distances from last season. Some of the athletes competing today will use the invite as a tune-up before heading to the state finals this weekend. Others will compete in the final meet of their high school careers and look to end on a high note.

Last season, Alpena’s Cooper Bright and Chloe Lawrence took top honors and one meet record fell.

Who will take top honors this year and what records will fall? That remains to be seen, but the meet always proves to be exciting.
