CADILLAC -- The Alpena High softball team executed well in all phases of the game on Tuesday against Cadillac, beating the Vikings a Big North Conference doubleheader 20-2 and 16-0.
In the opener, Alpena scored 12 runs in the top of the first inning and finished the game with 22 hits. Izzy Edmonds had four hits, three RBI and scored four runs; Macy Schram had three hits including two doubles, two RBI and scored three runs; Lanie Morgan had three hits and scored twice; Shaylee Allen had three hits and three RBI; Ava Rospierski, Madison Bloom and Emilee Modrejewski each had two hits.
Morgan got the win, allowing two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and a walk.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the first inning of the nightcap and held that lead until the third inning when they tacked on five runs. Alpena added nine more runs in the fourth inning.
Edmonds had four hits including a home run, four RBI and two runs scored; Morgan had three hits and scored a run; Grace Pratt had two hits, three RBI and scored a run; Marah Wisniewski had two home runs, including a grand slam and six RBI.
Edmonds allowed four hits and a walk with six strikeouts to earn the win.
Alcona sweeps Hale
HALE -- The Alcona softball team made quick work of Hale on Monday, beating the Eagles 19-1 in three innings in the opener and 16-1 in four innings in the second game.
BASEBALL
Alpena sweeps Cadillac
CADILLAC -- The Alpena baseball team kept things rolling on Tuesday, defeating Cadillac 8-4 (9 innings) and 4-1.
With both teams tied at four after six innings, the Wildcats (12-3) finally broke through with four runs in the top of the ninth.
Brady Kollen had an RBI single and Tucker Bright advanced to score on a throw from the outfield. Brady Niedzwiecki followed with an RBI fielder's choice which scored Kaleb Donajkowski and Niedzwiecki later scored on an error.
Kollen, Jon Rensberry and Brady Pagels had two hits each and Kollen had three RBI. Caleb McEwen earned the win, allowing four runs on 10 hits with 10 strikeouts and a walk in eight innings.
In the second game, Alpena scored two runs in the second inning and added one run each in the third and sixth innings. Donajkowski and Grant Jarema had two hits each for Alpena.
Donajkowski got the win, allowing a run on three hits with four walks and five strikeouts in six innings.
Borsvold throws perfect game for Alcona
HALE -- Owen Borsvold threw a perfect game and the Alcona baseball team dominated Hale in a doubleheader on Monday, winning 20-0 and 16-1.
Borsvold needed just three innings to throw a perfect game in the opener, striking out seven and throwing 25 of his 32 pitches for strikes.
At the plate, Jordan Benac had three hits and an RBI for Alcona; Owen Borsvold had two hits and three RBI; Evan Borsvold had two hits and four RBI; Gavin Dellar had a hit and three RBI.
In the nightcap, Dellar had three hits and an RBI; Owen Borsvold had two hits and four RBI and Ricky Schott had two hits and two RBI.
Evan Borsvold earned the win, allowing a run on no hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in three innings.
GIRLS TENNIS
Traverse City Central 8, Alpena 0
The Alpena girls tennis team was swept during a match with Traverse City Central on Tuesday, losing 8-0. Alpena scores included:
Bekah Carlson, Alpena lost at one singles 6-0 , 6-1; Aliccia Carroll lost at two singles 6-0 , 6-0; Megan Brown lost at three singles 6-1 , 6-0; Kaylie Hincka lost at four singles, 6-0 , 6-0.
Prashali Chhapamohan and Prinali Chhapamohan lost at one doubles, 6-0 , 6-0; Madison Tolan and Gracie Tulgetska lost at two singles 6-0 , 6-0; Keygan Harrell and Addison Burrone, lost at three singles 6-0 , 6-1; Avery Connor and Naomi Ratz lost at four singles 6-0 , 6-0.
