For Victim Rights Awareness Week 2023, the Alpena County Prosecutor’s Office of Victim Services would like to remind people they can utilize Text-to-911 to reach out for help.

While voice calls remain the best method by which to communicate with dispatchers and receive help, those who are deaf, hard of hearing or speech disabled, are some of those for whom this service is intended.

For others, however, calling for help is not always the safest way for people in domestic violence or threatening situations. When a victim is in a situation where speaking aloud to a dispatcher would be either physically impossible or would draw unwanted attention, they can text 911 for assistance.

Not only will the dispatchers receive their text message, but they will be able to text a response as well.
