On Monday, 56-year-old Lewiston man Keith Kelly Howard was arraigned in Alpena's 88th District Court on one count assault with intent to murder, one count possession of firearm by a felon, one count felony weapons charge, and one count flee and elude.
On April 13, a deputy at the Montmorency County Sheriff's Office attempted to pull Howard over traffic. In response, Howard attempted to flee leading to a short pursuit.
During the pursuit, Howard's car was disabled so he fled on foot, firing an unknown number of rounds behind him as he fled, according to a news release.
The Montmorency deputies were joined by deputies from the Oscoda County Sheriff's Office, troopers from the Michigan State Police Alpena and Gaylord Posts, MSP Canine Teams, MSP Emergency Support Team (EST) and the MSP Aviation Unit as they tracked Howard to an address on County Road 491.
The MSP EST then set a perimeter at the residence where they successfully negotiated Howard's surrender.
There were no injuries.
Howard's bond was set at $500,000 and his next scheduled court appearance is May 5.
