‘Jacks go 2-3 vs. Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS -- The Alpena Community College softball team went 2-3 during a weekend road trip to Grand Rapids.

ACC went 1-2 during a Saturday tripleheader, losing 9-1, winning 8-7, and losing 4-0.

In Saturday's opener, ACC (8-9) was limited to one hit from Jade Schultz.

ACC held off a Grand Rapids comeback in the second game to win. ACC led 5-0 after two innings and 7-6 after five innings after both teams combined for six runs in the fifth. ACC tacked on one more in the top of the seventh and Grand Rapids added one more in its final turn at the plate.

Schultz had four hits including a home run and four RBI; Lizzy Romel had two hits; Makayla Kamyszek and Avery Zipp had two hits and Maddy Wilkinson had three hits and an RBI. Schultz earned the win in the circle.

Grand Rapids capped the day with a 4-0 win, limiting ACC to four hits.

ACC split a Friday doubleheader with Grand Rapids, losing the opener 5-0 and winning the nightcap 14-9.

In the opener, ACC was limited to three hits. In the second-game victory, ACC broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning and kept rolling from there. ACC finished with 12 hits and Alaina Saari earned the win.

Wilkinson had two hits including a triple, an RBI, and scored three runs; Paige Wooden had two hits and two RBI; Breya Domke had a double and two hits and an RBI; Romel had two hits, an RBI, and scored three times.

The ACC baseball team lost all five games against Grand Rapids on Friday and Saturday and was shut out three times.

On Saturday, ACC (1-18) opened a tripleheader with a 9-2 loss. ACC's only runs came in the top of the fifth.

Kaleb Blaskowski had a hit and an RBI for Alpena and the Lumberjacks scattered four other hits. Caleb Stuck and Brandon Maddox each scored a run.

ACC lost the second game 4-0 and was limited to just two hits. The Lumberjacks closed the day out with a 9-0 loss and scattered five hits, including two for Stuck.

Grand Rapids defeated ACC 11-0 and 17-4 in a Friday doubleheader. ACC was limited to two hits in the first game.

In the second game, Grand Rapids jumped out to an 11-0 lead and the Lumberjacks scored two runs in the last two innings.

Nathan Valdvia had a hit and two RBI for ACC and Eric Rogers and Wyatt Crawford each had a hit and an RBI.

Both ACC teams will host Bay College for games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this week.
