Alpena robotics team qualifies for world championship

ALPENA -- Alpena High School's Robotics Team 5505, known as Volts Squared, has qualified for the FIRST Robotics World Championships, Alpena Public Schools said in a news release.

The team will head to Houston April 19 to 23 to compete.

The team qualified for the World Championships during the FIRST State Championship at Saginaw Valley State University over the weekend.

The team is fundraising to be able to travel to Houston. The entrance fee for the World Championships is $5,000 and food, travel, and lodging for 20 people could hit $30,000 or more, the district says.

The school is accepting donations online at tinyurl.com/bdhvswfn or in person at the Alpena High main office.

FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.
