Alpena AAU Gymnastics Platinum team takes first

Over spring break on March 19, Alpena's Xcel Platinum gymnastics team beat out Aerial Express Gymnastics for first place.
"I had no idea we were even close to them in score, let alone beat them! It was a great victory for our girls," Alpena coach Geri Samp said.
Leading the Platinum team in scoring was Brooke Smith placing first in vault (9.5), Floor (9.45), and all-around. Alliyah Hagemeister also placed first on the bars (9.15), while Paige Samp placed second on the Bars (8.95), and Grace Samp placed third on the vault (9.4).
Also competing for Alpena were the Xcel Gold and Xcel Silver teams. Savanna Spangle took third on the vault (9.4) and second on the bars (9.3). Clare Lacross placed fifth on the vault (9.2), and Cailyn Burrone placed fourth on the beam 9.0).
Aryanna Page placed third on the vault (9.5), while Cailyn Peters placed fourth on the vault (9.2). Livvy Spangle placed second on the beam (9.5), while Lydia Allen placed third on the beam (9.35). Madelyn Coffman earned a sixth place finish on Vault (9.1).
The next meet the gymnasts will be competing in is the District Championships taking place in Vasser on April 15.
