On Thursday around 9:30 a.m., a Thunder Bay Junior High School staff member who was cleaning a bathroom reported the presence of faintly written words on a bathroom stall that required attention. The words were “AK-47,” and a time, Alpena Public Schools officials announced in a press release on Thursday afternoon.

A school liaison officer, along with APS administrators immediately began an on-site investigation of the situation. After consulting with the Alpena County Sheriff’s Department regarding the results of the investigation, it was determined that no further action was needed.

Out of caution, the Sheriff’s Department sent officers to the school to be visible in the building and the surrounding neighborhood.
