Man, woman arrested on weapons, drug charges

PRESQUE ISLE — On Feb. 9, troopers from the Michigan State Police-Alpena Post responded to a vehicle in the ditch. A 41-year-old man from Rogers City, and a 37-year-old woman from Alpena were the driver and passenger of the vehicle.

While one of the troopers was speaking with the man, the woman began walking south on US-23. The trooper asked her if she had any weapons or drugs in her possession. She told the trooper there was a weapon inside the bag she was carrying. Inside the bag the trooper found a double-edge knife. The woman was placed under arrest, during which time the trooper found methamphetamine inside her coat pocket and a syringe hidden up her sleeve.

The man was seen by a witness throwing an item in the snow prior to troopers arriving. An MSP K-9 Team was called to assist. He told the troopers he had knives inside the vehicle. The K-9 searched the area outside the vehicle and located two glass pipes with methamphetamine residue inside a bandana. The K-9 also located a magnetic lock box containing a scale as well as a clear glove containing methamphetamine.

The pair were arrested and lodged in the Presque Isle County Jail. The woman was arraigned in the 89th District Court in Presque Isle County for one count possession of methamphetamine and carrying a concealed weapon.

The man waived his arraignment and was bound over to circuit court for one count delivery methamphetamine, one count carrying a concealed weapon, one count possession of methamphetamine, and one count operating under the influence.
