Lights, decorations make Alpena bright during the holidays

ALPENA — It seems just about everywhere you turn in Alpena, houses and businesses all around town are dressed up for the holiday season.

Whether you’re out for an evening walk or taking a ride to go look at Christmas displays, it’s hard not to miss the brightly colored lights and other colorful holiday decorations.

A turn down one street may reveal an inflatable Frosty the Snowman or Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. A journey down another road reveals inflatable Minions, Santa Claus, Christmas trees and so much other holiday paraphernalia that adorns residents’ homes and lawns. The brightly lit city Christmas tree greets passersby as they pass through Culligan Plaza.

For dozens of residents, decorating for the holidays is a cherished tradition and it’s estimated that more than 80 percent of Americans decorate for the holidays in some way.

No matter how homes, lawns, businesses, and town squares are decorated, the lights and decorations are a familiar and welcoming sight during the holiday season.
