HARRISVILLE -- Downtown Harrisville will be awash in Christmas cheer over the next several weeks with several family-focused events on tap.
The events are a way for people to support local small businesses this holiday season and find the perfect gift for friends and family.
The Christmas celebration kicks off on Saturday with the annual Christmas in the Village, which includes a bazaar at the Methodist church beginning at 9 a.m., as well as hayrides from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Harrisville Art Council building on Third Street.
That is only the beginning of the fun as some special guests are expected to visit the city later in the day.
According to The Hollyhock Emporium owner Monica Spears, the Grinch is expected to visit local businesses and, assuredly, his disdain for Christmas will be on display. Spears said local leaders and police will keep close tabs on Mr. Grinch so any funny business can be dealt with firmly.
The Harrisville Lady Lions will decorate Main Street, so it resembles Christmases of the past, which will cast a holiday charm over the balance of the holiday season.
On Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. until noon, Santa will appear at the Alcona Coffee Company before joining the Grinch at The Hollyhock Emporium until 4 p.m.
Later in the evening, members of the community will gather at the pocket park for caroling and hot cocoa.
These events bring families down to Main Street and is a really good time for everyone," Spears said. "We're trying to revitalize the downtown and Christmas is going to be a big part of that. There are a lot of Christmas events for everyone to enjoy."
