Alpena AAU Gymnastics teams starting season with home wins

ALPENA -- Alpena's AAU Gymnastics team started the season with wins this past weekend, taking three team wins against High Flyers Gymnastics.
Alpena's Xcel Silver, Xcel Gold, and Xcel Platinum teams came into the APlex ready to protect their home turf.
Xcel Silver gymnasts: Livvy Spangle, Aryanna Page, Lydia Allen, Cailyn Peters, Oz Morrison, Ambria McKay, Madelyn Coffman, Rachel Grider, Brooklyn Finch, Abigail Reinhardt, Libby Misiak, and Emmi Ruby had a great showing. Many of the competitors are new on the team, while others conquered skills never performed by themselves.
Earning first place in their events were; Livvy (beam 9.00), and Aryanna (vault 9.20, bars 9.00, beam 9.00, floor 8.80, and all-around 36.00), Oz competing in a men's division, Emmi (beam 9.20), Libby (bars 9.20), Abigail (vault 8.75, bars 9.20, floor 9.00, and all-around 35.65), and Brooklynn (floor 9.00).
Xcel Gold gymnasts: Lola Halleck, Cece Weaver, Cailyn Burrone, Callie Brousseau, Savanna Spangle, and Clare LaCross were solid in their events.
Finishing in first place for Alpena were; Lola (bars 9.25, floor 9.55), Callie (vault 9.20, all-around 37.10), and Clare (beam 9.35).
Xcel Platinum gymnasts: Faith Dragiewicz, Brooke Smith, Paige Samp, and Alliyah Hagemeister showed off their higher level skills with strength and poise.
Walking off with 1st places were; Brooke (vault 8.90, floor 9.40, and all-around 35.90), Paige (beam 8.80, floor 9.40), and Alliyah (vault 8.90)
Coaches Geri Samp, Billy Brousseau, and Haylee Gagnon were very proud of the girls' hard work and performance. It was a great way to start off a new season. We have a lot of gymnastics varying in different ages and grades. It has been fun watching the team mold together while the older kids help guide the younger ones. It will be a fun year.
Alpena's next competition will be held Jan. 14-15, 2023, against RAYG in Lowell, at Lowell High School.
