ALPENA — Alpena County has put the finishing touches on its new capital improvement plan. A joint meeting of the board of commissions and the planning commission is slated for Nov. 29 so the public can comment on it before the two boards ratify the plan.

A capital improvement plan lists needed projects and purchases out several years, which helps commissioners plan and save for them. The plan is updated each year and the projects are typically listed by priority.

Commissioner Don Gilmet said the county’s CIP runs out five years, but there are additional projects that extend out as far as five years.

Work on the plan began early in the year.

“This is a tool that helps us plan and stay on top of things, even if they are things we can’t afford right now, it helps us to save and plan for them,” Gilmet said.

Gilmet said the meeting is an opportunity for residents to chime in on the plan before the two boards vote to adopt it.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in the Howard Male Conference Room at the county’s annex building.
