ROGERS CITY – The comedy, “Moon Over Buffalo,” opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Rogers Theater, 257 N. 3rd St., Rogers City.

The 1995 play by Ken Ludwig is set in 1953 in Buffalo, New York.

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday night, 2 p.m. Sunday, and again Nov. 4 through 6.

Directed by Jodi Lynn Kamyszek, the screwball comedy centers on fading 1950s stars George and Charlotte Hay, played by Garrison Benson and Pennie Hoeft. Currently, they’re playing “Private Lives” and “Cyrano De Bergerac” in Buffalo, New York, with five actors.

On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s hooking up with a young ingenue, Eileen (Casey Gross), they get word that Frank Capra is coming to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie. As in all comedies, everything that could go wrong, does go wrong, helped by a visit from their daughter, Rosalind (Baylee Lijewski), her clueless fiance, Howard (Robert Starnes), and uncertainty about which play they’re performing. Charlotte’s deaf mother, played by Judy Fisher Schmidt, adds to the confusion. An old friend, Richard (Lawrence Anderson), who wants to be more than friends, and Paul (Alex Czarnecki), a member of the company and an old beau of Rosalind’s, add to the complications.

“It’s good, old-fashioned comedy,” Kamyszek said. “One thing goes wrong after another, but it all works itself out in the end. I’m still laughing watching rehearsals.”

She said the content is suitable for ages 13 and up, because there is some swearing and adult situations.

Kamyszek is pleased with the cast and crew’s efforts.

“They’ve been incredible,” she said. “Everyone has been so involved in this play. I’m so proud of all of them.”

She said cast members built the set and have been helping out on many levels.

“I’m just so thrilled,” Kamyszek said.

She said the play is hilarious on paper, but the cast brings the comedy alive.

“The script is so well-written,” she said. “We just have some talented folks, and it’s going to be a very funny show.”
