ALPENA -- Alpena High School announced on Monday the hiring of Eric Mackenzie as baseball coach.
""I am excited for this opportunity," Mackenzie said in a press release. "I played baseball at Alpena High School and enjoyed my time as a student-athlete. I am looking forward to continuing the tradition of Alpena High School baseball that was established by the previous coaches. I can't wait to meet our great student-athletes and begin my tenure as the baseball coach."
Mackenzie succeeds Phil Schultz who retired this summer after more than 30 years in coaching.
Mackenzie has coached baseball for the last four years and spent 10 years coaching student-athletes catching skills and techniques. He also serves on the Little League Board.
Mackenzie attended Alpena High, where he played hockey, baseball and football. He later went on to play baseball at Hope College.
"We are excited to have Eric Mackenzie lead our baseball program" AHS Athletic Director Jon Studley said. "Eric follows in his dad’s footsteps and knows what it takes to have a successful program."
