Rogers City earns grant money to protect water source

Rogers City was among 39 Michigan communities that will receive a Source Water Protection Grant from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy during its 2023 grant cycle, the agency announced on Wednesday.

The community will receive $4,125 as part of a program the state says funds efforts to protect clean water sources and teach the public about keeping its water healthy.

Recipients must provide 50% matching funds for their projects, develop a water protection team, and demonstrate long-term commitment to their source water protection programs.

This year’s grants totaled nearly $407,000.
