Fournier, Francisco, Konarzewski win Alpena County commissioners’ races

ALPENA — Brenda Fournier, Burt Francisco, and Travis Konarzewski each won county commissioners seats in Alpena County during the primary election on Tuesday.

There were three contested races on the Republican side of the ballot during the primary election. The winners won the seats because they are unopposed in the general election in November.

Fournier defeated challenger Terry King 233 to 224, to win the District 5 seat. Tammy Thomson received 83 votes. Fournier said it is an honor to represent the people in her district and praised her opponents.

“I’m excited that my district has the faith in me to reelect me again,” Founier said. “I’d like to thank Terry and Tammy for running a good, clean race. I’m looking forward to continuing to work hard for all of the people in Alpena County for another two years.”

Francisco held off incumbent Kevin Osbourne 341 to 334, to win District 6. He said he intends to work hard to help move the county forward into the future.

“Thank you to the voters in District No. 6 for electing me as your commissioner,” Francisco said. “I look forward to serving our district as we prepare and execute effective plans and policies for Alpena County. I also commend Mr. Osbourne for his efforts and desire to serve Alpena County.”

Osbourne said he intends to have a recount conducted, after the board of canvassers authorizes the results later today.

In District 7, two first time commissioner candidates squared off with Konarzewski earning more voter support than Smith. The final vote tally for District 7 was 458 to 345.

There were also a pair of unopposed commissioner races in Alpena County on Tuesday. Republican Bill Peterson won another term in District No. 4 and Dave Karschnick, also a Republican, will continue to represent the people in District No. 3.

Voters in the other district in Alpena County will have an opportunity to vote for their commissioner in November. District No. 1 will feature Republican Bill LaHaie versus Libertarian Scott Parkham, while Democrat Bob Adrian will try to win reelection against Republican Jesse Osmer in District No. 2.
