Children escape injury in Alpena wreck

ALPENA — The Alpena police and fire departments responded to a two-car crash in which more than a handful of children were passengers.

The children were examined by medical staff at the scene, and none were transported to the hospital.

The wreck occurred at the intersection of 1st Avenue and Campbell Street at about 4 p.m. when a minivan containing the family pulled out in front of an oncoming car headed west on 1st Avenue. The front end of the car suffered significant damage, but the driver was unhurt. The van had damage to its driver side.

Police had traffic closed at the intersection for about 20 minutes.
