Alcona rape case stalled before Supreme Court
Darrell Busch, who pleaded guilty in 2021 to three charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in Alcona County, will be watching the outcome of an Alpena County case set to appear before the Michigan Supreme Court.
That court last week stalled Busch’s appeal to the higher court until Supreme Court justices examine the appeal of Travis Johnson, whose case the State Appellate Defender Office is using to contest the imposition of court fees on defendants.
Busch’s appeal raises an issue that may be resolved once the Supreme Court weighs in on the Alpena County case, the higher court said on Thursday, saying Busch — whose case has also been taken up by the Appellate Defender Office — will have to wait to find out if the court will hear his appeal.
Busch is currently serving a 10- to 20-year sentence at the St. Louis Correctional Facility.
