Officers at the Michigan State Police-Alpena Post received body cameras on Thursday and will continue training with them today at the post.
Troopers at other posts around northern Michigan will receive cameras in coming weeks, as well, thanks to a $3.8 million general fund appropriation from the state.
Officers assigned the equipment are to use it to record all law enforcement action and contacts in performance official duties, according to the State Police procedure manual.
The manual allows several exceptions, such as for conversations with other police officers or undercover officers and in situations where privacy is expected, such as health care facilities and restrooms.
