ALPENA — Alpena has released an artist’s rendering showing what a proposed renovation to Culligan Plaza in downtown Alpena could look like when completed.
The redesigned plaza would feature a new water feature and a tower that can light up and change colors. The plaza also would be simpler for people with disabilities to navigate.
The city has dedicated $200,000 from its American Rescue Plan Act money, as well as $100,000 from the First Federal of Northern Michigan Legacy Foundation, and $20,000 from the county’s youth and recreation property tax.
The city could begin work on the project in the fall.
