ALPENA — Firefighters from local departments used a metal car rigged with gas lines to practice nozzle use near the water tower on U.S.-23 North in Alpena Township on Wednesday.

Hosted by the Alpena Township Fire Department, the training made use of a burn car on loan from the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center and welcomed fire personnel from the Alpena Fire Department and Alpena, Maple Ridge, Wilson, and Presque Isle townships.

Firefighters took turns using a specialty nozzle to extinguish the burning car, with the help of representatives of nozzle manufacturing and sales companies.
