Abuse leads to drug delivery charges

ALPENA — A West Branch man intent on delivering methamphetamine beat a woman while she was driving and then dropped her off at the hospital, according to police.

A Marquette woman left at the MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena emergency entrance Monday night told hospital workers that Harold Phillips, 47, assaulted her while she drove his sports utility vehicle.

Emergency room workers told police that the woman, who had visible bruising on her face and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, had been dropped off by a bald man driving a whilte Cadillac Escalade.

Using license plate information gleaned from surveillance footage, police found Phillips’ Escalade northbound on U.S.-23.

Police found drugs and drug paraphernalia in Phillips’ vehicle, including about 100 grams of methamphetamine.

Phillips was arraigned this week on one count of delivery of methamphetamine.

Phillips was released from prison in March following a 2017 conviction on drug charges, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections.
