Summer art contests to focus on Presque Isle lighthouses
PRESQUE ISLE — To celebrate the history and beauty of the lighthouses of Presque Isle, the Presque Isle Township Museum Society is hosting three creative contests this summer.
The community is invited to participate in two photography contests, open to photographers of all ages, and a Youth Art Contest, open to young artists from kindergarten through 8th grade.
“For more than 150 years, our historic lighthouses have captured the imagination of all who visit them,” said C. Mark Rutenbar, acting president of PITMS. “Both local and visiting artists are inspired by our lighthouses and we look forward to seeing how their creativity and talent are revealed in the contest entries.”
Photography Contests
There will be two photography contests, one for the Old Lighthouse (1840) and another for the New Lighthouse (1870). Photographers of any age are encouraged to submit their best photos. In each contest, first, second, and third place will be chosen by a jury of volunteers. Voting for the People’s Choice Award will take place on the PITMS Facebook page. In each contest, the image with the most “likes” will receive the People’s Choice Award. The winning photos will be announced via a press release and featured on the PITMS website and social media.
Photos will be accepted in two separate categories:
¯ Old Presque Isle Lighthouse (1840): Submissions accepted June 1 through July 15.
¯ New Presque Isle Lighthouse (1870) Submissions accepted Aug. 1 through Sept. 15.
Youth Art Contest
Young artists in kindergarten through 8th grade are invited to submit their best artwork of drawings and paintings of the lighthouses. There will be prizes for first and second place in each of four age divisions: grades K-1, grades 2-3, grades 4-5, and grades 6-8.
Submission of digital images of original artwork will be accepted via email from June 1 to Aug. 20.
